Oxfordshire Racial Equality Council is an independent voluntary organisation, working to promote racial equality in Oxfordshire. It is a registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.
The aims and objectives of Oxfordshire REC are:
- to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination; and
- to promote equality of opportunity, and good relations, between persons of different racial groups; especially in the county of Oxfordshire.
- These objectives are pursued through the following functions:
- Policy development work with statutory, private and voluntary sector organisations on the nature and extent of racial discrimination and the implementation of policies and practices to address this.
- Community support, by assisting organisations concerned with the promotion of racial equality issues.
- Assistance to individuals in cases of racial discrimination, by advising, supporting and where necessary representing them at employment tribunals.
- Public education work to raise general awareness of racial equality issues throughout Oxfordshire.
Oxfordshire REC’s membership is made up of affiliated organisations and individuals drawn from the various communities within Oxfordshire, who support the organisation’s aims and objectives. The membership elects the executive committee and honorary officers, to whom the Director and staff are accountable on a day-to-day basis.
Oxfordshire REC receives funding from a number of sources, including training, membership subscriptions, donations, and grants from the Equality & Human Rights Commission and Capacity Builders.
